Did I Imagine This?
· by Roy Edlund

One of the fascinating things about aging is that I can remember with clarity things that happened 45 years ago, but I can be in a conversation with a person and spend 10 minutes trying to remember their name.
I've also discovered that, given my propensity to indulge my imagination, that maybe what I remember isn't always accurate.
Embellishments have crept in over time to make the memory more interesting to my inventiveness.
I discovered there is a psychological term for this called Imagination inflation. Psychologists, right? A term for everything.
If it were up to them, I imagine we'd all be paying them to talk about what our brains are conjuring up. A perfect world.
That reminds me of the time I was sitting on the beach and a pelican swooped down like some primeval pterodactyl and perched on a nearby pylon.
He began talking to me with an Ocracoke brogue, I could barely understand, explaining the secret to a long and happy life.
And the whole time I sat there, I was thinking, do I know this pelican?
Love from here. ❤
