Didn't Make the Cut: The Pink Problem

This one didn't make the 2027 calendar. The reason is, I just had too many pink photos.

I wanted you to see it here because it was a hard decision.

The sky went soft edge to edge that morning, the clouds catching just enough light to blush, the ocean calm and patient beneath it.

Then right on cue, a single clean wave stood up in the foreground and peeled, like it knew I was watching.

On its own merits, it's a keeper. The trouble is it kept good company.

Plenty of dawns on the Outer Banks come up pink, and when you sit down to pick thirteen months, you start noticing your favorites all run the same color.

Somewhere around the sixth pink sunrise you realize a calendar can only hold so much pink before the whole year starts to look like cotton candy - and cotton candy hurts my teeth.

Good photos lose to other good photos. This was one of them.

Most of what gets cut isn't bad. It's just outvoted. Thirteen spots, and a lot of mornings that deserved one.

So this one hangs here instead.

Still one of my favorites. It just happened to be pink in a year already running long on pink.

Love from here. ❤️
