Into the ether.
· by Roy Edlund

Yesterday, I received a blast from the past from someone I worked for 25 years ago. When I say blast, it's not an exaggeration, I'd say nuclear, but is was more flash than fallout.
Anyway, we had a falling out over a false allegation against me. I considered the owner of this company my friend and I just knew he wouldn't believe it. Well, I was wrong and they let me go.
Needless to say that was a painful experience.
But like I said, this was 25 years ago and to be honest, I haven't thought about it much since then.
I was really stunned to receive this message saying that for some reason he thought of me and wanted to know how I was doing, all cheery and light.
And in a split second all that long forgotten hurt came exploding to the surface like it happened yesterday.
My reply was short that included a brief explanation reminding him of why we hadn't spoken for 25 years. I expected that would be the last of it.
But no.
His reply suggested that I was mistaken, questioning whether it was some other employer.
So in essence what he was saying was that he didn't believe me. Again.
That irony was not lost on me.
I wished him well and excused myself saying I would fade back into the ether of time.
Love from here. ❤️
